All external doors should be fitted with British Standard 3621 kite mark mortice deadlocks, because rim or Yale locks provide little protection as they can be opened from outside without a key. Most household insurance policies require a 5 lever mortice deadlock to be fitted in the front door which may also need additional bolts for additional piece of mind. Automatic deadlock rim locks automatically lock when the door closes and can only be opened, inside or outside with the key.
